Celebrating Neurodiversity
Celebrating Neurodiversity
At Earley St Peter’s, we believe it is vital that every child feels valued and included. We actively recognise, celebrate and promote awareness of SEND across the school through assemblies, themed events and classroom activities that help pupils and parents understand and appreciate difference.
Autism Awareness Month
This year every child was given sunflower seeds to take home and plant over the holidays. As a school we talked about how sunflowers represent life and hope and how just as no two sunflowers are exactly the same, each child is unique and special – something we’re particularly proud to celebrate during Autism Awareness Month.
Children also developed their understanding of Makaton. Below are a few of Makaton signs that we have learnt. We have been so impressed with how enthusiastic the children have been about learning a new skill and sharing it with others.
Dyslexia Awareness Week
As part of her role as SENDCo, Mrs Dunthorne has been championing the needs of pupils with SEND across the school by leading assemblies that raise awareness and understanding of different learning needs. Her recent Dyslexia Awareness Assembly encouraged pupils to celebrate individual strengths and recognise that everyone learns in their own way. Below are the resources used, which were also shared in our school newsletter.
